Mahjong 101 is a 2–2.5 hour beginner-friendly instructional class designed for those who are curious about the game but not sure where to start. Whether you've watched others play, heard friends talking about it, or simply want to understand what all the tiles and cards are about, this class is for you. This experience walks you step-by-step through the flow of American Mahjong with clear explanations, visual support, live demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Mahjong 101 sessions may take place at Ono Brewing Company or Ono Offshore in Chantilly, Virginia, depending on the date. The exact location will be listed when booking your session. What to Expect • Welcoming, judgment-free environment • Instructor-led, paced instruction • Hands-on practice with tiles • Time for questions • All Mahjong supplies provided Who This Class Is For • Brand-new Mahjong players • Those who have watched others play but never learned • Anyone looking for a clear and friendly introduction before joining Social Play Class size is intentionally kept small and interactive to ensure a supportive and beginner-friendly experience. Minimum: 4 participants Maximum: 8 participants If the minimum enrollment is not met, registered participants will be notified at least 48 hours in advance and offered a reschedule option. Food & Drink Both locations offer beverages for purchase and have craft beer, cider, seltzer, wine, and non-alcoholic options. Odd BBQ is located inside Ono Brewing and offers delicious BBQ if you'd like to grab a bite before class. Ono Offshore only offers snacks like chips, nuts etc. Please note there is not enough space at the Mahjong tables for full meals, but small table snacks and beverages are accetable. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to get settled before class begins. Refund / Cancellation Policy: Due to limited seating and advance planning required for our classes and events, all registrations are final and non-refundable. Please confirm your availability before completing your booking. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your seat to another participant with advance notice. Simply email us the new participant’s name so we can update the roster prior to the event. No-shows or last-minute cancellations cannot be credited or refunded.
