OUR STORY

From our "Ohana" to yours....

Ono Brewing Company is a family business owned by husband and wife team, Scott and Cyndi Hoffman. “Ono” means “delicious” or “tasty” in Hawaiian and was chosen because of Scott and Cyndi’s deep connections to Hawaii. Cyndi’s mother was born and raised in Kahuku, on the island of Oahu. Scott and Cyndi were fortunate to return to Cyndi’s family roots, spending their first years of marriage living in Hawaii. It was there that they learned Hawaiian culture and traditions from Cyndi’s extended “Ohana” (family) while Scott served in the U.S. Army at Schofield Barracks. After their military tour, Scott and Cyndi returned to Florida, where Cyndi and Scott first met and spent their college days, and where Scott’s love of home-brewing was first kindled.

After spending nearly twenty years together in the tropical locations of Hawaii and Florida,  Scott and Cyndi have called Northern Virginia home since 2011. However, they came to miss the laid-back atmosphere of Hawaii where everyone is on “Island time” and Florida where flip-flops are worn year-round. They worked hard to bring a little bit of that relaxing vibe to Northern Virginia, through Ono Brewing Company, albeit without the sand and surf.

Scott is heading up the “back of the house” operations and all things relating to the brewery. Scott has been brewing beer since his college days in Florida and has spent 20+ years as a successful engineer and program manager supporting the government. Going back to his civil engineer roots, he managed the build-out phase of the brewery and tasting room while working on perfecting beer recipes and furthering his education in the craft beer industry.

Cyndi is heading up the “front of the house” operations and is the tasting room manager at Ono. As a biologist who spent  18 years as a biology teacher in Florida and Virginia, she went back to her roots that include over 10 years of restaurant industry experience including managing Chili’s Grill and Bar in Waipahu, Hawaii. Cyndi is also excited to lend her science expertise to the brewing team.
